It was this beautiful summer day. We were sitting in a terrace right next to the beach in Athens Greece.

You could feel the sun shining on your skin and hear the Mediterranean whisper in your ear. The air around the cafe was scented with a mix of salt from the sea and hot coffee from the caffeteria.

My Wing Chun team and I were visiting my Sifu in Athens. We would train in the evening and hang-out during the day. And today we decided to go to the beach and enjoy the Greek sun.

While most of my team was sunbathing and getting ready to do the form on the beach, I decided to grab a coffee and some water along with Gelu, the guy you can see in the video below.

I was sitting with Gelu in this gorgeous cafe’ and it just occurred to me that he had been training with me for a year and a half and I never got the chance to really talk to him about it.

I said: ‘Gelu, you are one of my top students. What made you stay in the school and work so hard?’

He looks at me with slight surprise and joy and says: ‘Well Sifu, in the beggining I was looking for Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee’s martial art, but I couldn’t find a school in Bucharest.

Shortly after, I learned that Wing Chun was his first martial art and I decided to look into it. That’s when I found your school.

You had the most professional website and I thought that you were taking Wing Chun seriously, and I wasn’t dissapointed!’ He said while laughing joyfully.
‘That’s great! What was your fist impression?’ I asked, while feeling really good about taking the time to hear his side of the story.

‘I’ll never forget the fact that you interviewed me before accepting me in the school. You asked me weather I’d need more self-confidence, and I thought to myself, that’s so silly. I am very self-confident.

But now, after a year and a half of training Wing Chun and getting to know myself better, I’m starting to understand what confidence really is.
I mean, if I thought I was self-confident then, now I’m super self-confident.’ He laughs while sipping some water.

‘Wow, that’s great! I’m very happy to hear that! What do you feel has changed?’
‘You remember how you challenged us to wake up at 5 in the morning, do the form, read a book and plan the day?’
‘Yes! The 5 am challenge!’
‘I completed the challenge and since then, I wake up every day at 6, 5 am was a bit much, I do some fitness exercises, I eat healthy and I have more energy than ever before. I feel Amazing!’
‘I’m so happy to hear that! How do you feel about your Wing Chun?’
‘There’s a lot I still don’t understand, but I feel that it’s slowly starting to make sense. I see you, Sigong Evangelos and Grandmaster Gary Lam, and I feel really inspired to learn more and discover more about Wing Chun. I’m very happy with my progress as a practitioner. And I’m very grateful for that.’

We both smiled while we got up. It was time to do the first form on the beach and smile back at the sun, while accessing our internal power.

Looking back, I can honestly say that Gelu used a few key concepts to accelerate his Wing Chun progress and become one of my best students.

I’ve outlined them in this easy-to-read eBook that you cand download for FREE right here:
