What if you could use anchient Self-Defense concepts and philosophies, to improve your life, enjoy more success and feel safe when you walk the streets at night?
Hi there! Just in case you skipped through the previous article on the 3 Reasons Why Self-Defense Will Help You Become More Successful, my name is Bogdan and I am an author, public speaker and the founder of the first ever Personal Development through Martial Arts centre in the world, ‘Empowerment Wing Chun’.
This is a totally new concept, so I thought it would be cool to give you a better picture of how Personal Development combined with Self-Defense can help you feel safe, raise your self-confidence and lead to more success in your life.
Imagine this scenario…
You are walking on the street to work, and you this incredibly attractive person, that you would love to talk to.
While most people would never muster up the courage to take the first step and actually walk up to that person and say ‘Hi!’, for the purpose of this example, we will assume that you have no problem walking up to people you like to start a conversation.
Now, most personal development and dating advice would tell you to simply take action: ‘Be yourself, and go, what’s the worst that can happen?’.
If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried that direct, take immediate action, approach in similar scenarios and maybe even in business scenarios, with less than satisfactory results.
After being sick of taking action and failing, I was wondering if I was actually missing something.
What if there was a better approach to taking action?
I’ve found that before you take action, you should be aware of two more things.
Let’s see what those are.
You need to be aware of your state.
Are you being anxious or do you feel calm and centered?
Are you feeling that your knees are about to collapse or do you feel that you are stable like a mountain?
Is your face tensed up or are you casually smiling?
If you are feeling anxious and tense, the best way to deal with that is to focus on your breathing.
Breathe from the belly, because you will feel an instant shift in your state.
More on that, in the video below…
Before you take action, ask yourself if you are dependant on the outcome.
In other words, if you get a NO, will you feel disappointed or bad, or will it simply pass by you like nothing happend, because you understand that your own worth does not depend on the validation of others?
Ask yourself, will I be really happy, if this goes well, or will I be really sad if it doesn’t.
Before you take action, distance yourself from the outcome.
Don’t be too happy, if it goes well, don’t be too sad, if it doesn’t.
There is no point in connecting your own personal worth, like most people do, with that singular event.
The paradox is, that once you don’t care about the result, once you’ve distanced yourself, things will go a lot better for you.
You need to take action fast, otherwise your doubts, fears and social conditionning WILL take over.
You truly have a few seconds to do the first steps, before you take action.
That’s why, training the first two regularly, helps immensely, so that you have the answers to those questions almost instantly.
And you manage to center yourself and detatch yourself from the outcome in less than a second.
So that you can take action in a relaxed, aware, and grounded manner.
The odds will be considerably in your favour if you do that.
